New Jersey
Marathon/Half-Marathon (May 4) Gets Closer and Goes Greener with
NJ Transit Train
Travel from New York City...
Just 45 miles from New York City, the New Jersey Marathon could have
been 500 miles away as far as many New Yorkers are concerned. That
because most New Yorkers live a car-less existence and early morning
public transportation for a 7:30AM race was not available. So
getting from New York City to what might be considered a "local"
marathon/half marathon required a level of planning consistent with
an "out-of-town" race. To remedy the situation - and also to relieve
traffic congestion at the marathon start - the New Jersey Marathon
was able to team up with New Jersey Transit to offer a special early
morning train from New York City making all stops to Long Branch -
where the train station is less than 3/4 mile from the start. A new
level of convenience for marathoners and also one that is likely to
decrease congestion and traffic at the marathon site - a win, win,
win all around.
